Ticheze means
let's chat.

We're a small team based in Lilongwe building digital spaces specifically for Malawi. For us, chatting isn't just about passing time—it's about trading, sharing news, and looking out for our neighbors.

About the Ticheze Team

We didn't start Ticheze to build another social network.

Most global platforms are noisy, highly addictive, and designed for unlimited Wi-Fi. They want to keep you scrolling as long as possible. But here, a K2000 data bundle shouldn't vanish in 20 minutes just because a video auto-played.

Malawi needs tools built for our reality. We need apps that use very little data, work smoothly in both Chichewa and English, and respect our phone batteries. If you're a trader in Zomba, you probably need to know today's maize prices in your district, not a trending meme from across the world. That's exactly what we're building.

In Chichewa, "Ticheze" is a simple invitation: let's chat. We want to bring that same spirit online. No endless feeds, just real conversations that help you do business, stay safe, and keep up with what's happening right in your district.

Principles behind Ticheze

01

District-first

Everything happens at the district level, so you only see what matters locally.

02

Low-data always

Under 15MB, works smoothly on 2G networks, and doesn't drain your data in the background.

03

Private by default

Your direct messages are completely separate from the public community boards.

04

No addiction

No infinite feeds to get lost in. We focus on useful connections, not screen time.

Why we built Mchezo — Malawi's district chat

Mchezo by Ticheze

Mchezo is our first major platform. It brings together live chat, a community feed, and daily local updates. Whether you're buying and selling, running a neighborhood watch, or catching up on civic news, Mchezo makes it easy. It's now live across all 28 districts in Malawi.

Ticheze FAQ

"Ticheze" translates to "let's chat" in Chichewa. It's a welcoming invitation to connect, do business, and look out for one another within your local community.

Mchezo is our main app. It's a platform built entirely around Malawi's districts, featuring community feeds and direct messaging to help locals trade, share news, and organize neighborhood watches.

We cover all 28 districts! Whether you're up in Chitipa, down in Nsanje, or anywhere in between, you can join your local network.

Built by a small team in Lilongwe.

We're collaborating with community leads in places like Mzimba, Zomba, and Blantyre. If you're passionate about building technology that actually serves Malawians, we'd love to hear from you. We're currently looking for district contributors to join us.
